What you need to know as a biotech entrepreneur?

NCCBA presents Dr. John Ryals, a world class biotech industry leader. John will lead our discussion about the entrepreneurship in biotech field. The meeting format is questions & answers, therefore, please think of your questions and ask John.

John Ryals, Ph.D., has 30 years’ experience in the biotechnology industry. John currently serve as Chief Scientific Officer at EvoAktiv Corp. John co-founded Paradigm Genetics, Metabolon, Agbiome and Paradigm Botanicals, and developed these RTP companies very successfully.
One highlight is that he founded Metabolon Inc. in 2002 and served as president and CEO from 2002 to 2018. Metabolon is a pioneer and leader in the field of metabolomics and its use in precision medicine and human health.

John earned a BA in Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Texas and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas.

1. What inspired you for the entrepreneur journey?
2. What were the biggest misconceptions in your early days?
3. Based on the stage of the startups, what do you recommend for funding resources, in terms of crowdfunding, angel investors, and venture capitals?
4. In terms of accelerator programs, what do you recommend to get funding and business development help, but not give away much equity?
5. Where to practice investor pitch?
6. Team building: please give some advice on how to choose co-founder, board of directors, advisors and key team members?
7. In the current political environment, how to find resources to connect local U.S. entrepreneurs and investors in China?
8. What groups/resources should help entrepreneurs/CEOs from early stage companies quickly rise up?
