Business Association to Evaluate Wines Produced in North Carolina
Raleigh,
NC (July 20, 2007)—The NC Wine & Grape Council is partnering with the NC Department
of Agriculture’s Division of International Marketing to host a wine tasting
for the NC Chinese Business Association (NCCBA). Each participant will have
the opportunity to blindly taste six different North Carolina wines and score
them based on preference. Once the scores are tallied, the favorite wine of
the NCCBA will be announced.
“The purpose of the tasting is to expose our members
and guests to the wines made right here in North Carolina. We believe in supporting
North Carolina businesses, so we want to help spread the word. There are many
wineries across the state producing a great diversity of wine styles. We want
people to know that no matter what their taste, there is a North Carolina wine
that they will enjoy,” said Tenney Woo, Vice President of NCCBA.
The wine tasting
will take place at RTP Airport Hilton Hotel, 4810 Old Page Road,
Durham, NC 27703 (Google
Map), on August 23, 2007 at 6:00 PM. NCCBA members and their guests
will receive complimentary admission, and the cost is $10 to the general public.
The program will also include a brief overview of the North Carolina
wine and
grape industry.
There are more than 60 wineries and 350 commercial grape
growers in North Carolina. “The number of wineries in North Carolina has tripled since
the year 2000. This industry is quickly becoming an important part of our state’s
agritourism industry,” said Margo Knight Metzger, Executive Director of the
NC Wine & Grape Council.
According to a study published in 2006, the annual
economic impact of the NC wine and grape industry is $813 million
with 5,700 jobs created.
The NC Wine & Grape Council is an 11-member advisory council founded in 1986
for the purpose of sponsoring research, education and promotion of grapes. More
information is available at www.ncwine.org.
NCCBA serves as a forum for networking
and exchanging, for advancing knowledge in creating and sustaining
successful businesses, and for encouraging and facilitating coaching and consultation
among
