Research Triangle Park, NC, March 21, 2007 – The NC-Chinese Business Association announced today the continuation of its 2007 Marquee Speakers Series with Dr. Garheng Kong, a general partner with Intersouth Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm with $780 million portfolio under management. In addition to serving as a director on six boards, he has also served as interim CEO for two Intersouth portfolio companies.

“The NC Chinese business community and our friends are thrilled to have Garheng share his vast knowledge on the state of biotech and venture capitalism,” said Dr. YanChing Zhang, President of NCCBA and Client Executive with IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences.

“He is viewed as a role model within the Chinese community.” Prior to Intersouth, Garheng worked at GlaxoWellcome and McKinsey & Company. He received an M.D.- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, and an M.B.A. from Duke University—graduating at the top of his medical and business school classes. He also holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University.

Garheng is active within the community and sits on the board of directors for the North Carolina Medical Device Organization and the Southeast BIO (SEBIO), a non-profit organization that fosters the growth of the life sciences industry in the Southeastern United States. Garheng has also served on the Duke University Medical Center Institutional Review Board, and he remains on the faculty as a senior scholar at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
